1. ASKED AND ANSWERED
* I read your article regarding snapshot and event monitoring and am looking for more information. Once we take a snapshot, I see a lot of information. Where can I find documentation that will help me understand what it all means?
--Roger E. Sanders points the way.
http://www.db2mag.com/qanda/041117.shtml
* I'm trying to figure out how to configure DB2 and z/OS to minimize module reloads in the WLM-managed stored procedures address spaces (SPAS). In your excellent article "Stored Procedures Go Mainstream,"
it seems that defining PROGRAM TYPE SUB was the solution. But, you also started to use the Virtual Lookaside Facility (VLF). Why did PROGRAM TYPE SUB minimize the number of reloads? Did you see any drawbacks when switching to PROGRAM TYPE SUB? Did the uninitialized variables cause you any trouble? Or, did you just change the parameter and everything kept on working as before?
--Learn from Robert Catterall?s experience.
http://www.db2mag.com/qanda/041117-2.shtml
* We are in the process of implementing the concepts in your column "Do You MQ" for our batch processing, but our Web transactions aren't ready for this approach yet. As an interim solution, we've planned to use the DB2 Governor utility, which supposedly would let us assign higher priority for online requests and lower priority for batch. What do you think of this approach?

2. IBM NEWS
* DB2 UDB Blazes Past Previous TPC-C Benchmarks IBM today published a record-breaking TPC-C** benchmark result of 3,210,540 tpmC at a price/performance of $5.19/tpmC, demonstrating 2.7 times better performance than Oracle RAC, the closest competitor. This new DB2 result leads the previous record by a margin wider than the top results of Oracle and Microsoft, the next closest competitors, combined. To get this enormous scalability, IBM used DB2 UDB v.8.2, a 64-processor eServer p595 server, the AIX operating system, and TotalStorage FASt900 storage. TPC-C is an industry standard benchmark test that measures performance and price/performance of systems in an on-line transaction processing setting. The benchmark simulated 2.56 million users of the database, which contained more than 100 billion rows. The system managed 240TBs of storage and 2TBs of random access memory.
