* IBM to Acquire Candle Corp.
IBM announced an agreement to acquire Candle Corp., a privately held company that offers solutions for optimizing data centers and application infrastructure. Candle has developed an extensive set of infrastructure management solutions that cover IBM's DB2, Lotus, Tivoli, and WebSphere software, and zSeries, Linux, Unix, and Windows platforms. The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2004.

* New and Enhanced Tools for DB2 UDB on Linux, Unix, and Windows
DB2 Tools announced DB2 Test Database Generator for Multiplatforms, Version 2 and DB2 Performance Expert for Multiplatforms and Workgroups, Version 2. These tools, which deliver new capabilities to DB2 UDB customers, are orderable immediately and will be generally available by May 14, 2004.

IBM announced the new IBM Certified Database Administrator for DB2 UDB V8 z/OS exam and credential. To achieve this certification, candidates must pass both the DB2 UDB v.8.1 Family Fundamentals Exam (700) and the new DB2 UDB V8 Database Administration for z/OS Exam (702).
